At times, as I watch my dog sniff and sniff and sniff, I would give a lot to be inside her head.

Years ago I worked on a young-adult book in which the main character, a human girl, passes through a magical gateway along with some animals, which get transformed into human form as a result. The character who was a dog on the other side of the gateway says that when he’s in human form, his mind is like an old house, with lots of tiny rooms, dusty corners, closed doorways, twisty passageways, and dirty windows. When he’s a dog, however, his mind is like being outdoors on a sunny, breezy day.

    ‘Nuff said.

Woof!
